Catherine Z Ward

An NYU Tisch Honors graduate based in New York City, Catherine is an international photographer, experienced solo adventurer, mountaineer, artist, and multimedia documentarian. Through travels in over 50 countries, her photojournalism focuses on challenging Western stereotypes about misunderstood places, with Pakistan and China among her most transformative destinations. She speaks conversational Mandarin & some Spanish and is currently working on a book exploring globally mobile youth and cultural identity.

Catherine has worked across photography, writing, drone videography, and audio engineering, with professional studio experience in both NYC and Shanghai. She spent a year living in China and has published in Baedeker Travel Magazine, where she was promoted to Managing Editor and Head of Blog. Her work includes viral social media content, and she has been interviewed by CNN Travel. Her long-term creative goals include embedded documentation with humanitarian organizations, innovation in the entertainment tech space, immersive media exhibitions, and building a sustainable, location-independent career focused on underrepresented regions.

She likes to say that she lives in a space where sound meets image, where technology enables art, and where stories emerge from the spaces between cultures around the world.
